Genting Hotel

Genting Hotel: Integrated resort operator Genting Singapore has returned to the black in the first quarter, thanks to high-rolling gamblers at its casino and record numbers of overseas visitors to its Universal Studios.

The group yesterday reported a net profit of S$305.4 million for the three months ended March 31, turning around from the S$396.3 million net loss in the year-ago period. This was also an improvement from the S$150.3 million loss in the previous quarter. Genting said it "experienced good win percentage and gaming volume in the first quarter of this year with steady growth in Universal Studio Singapore and the hotels."

Genting Singapore, which operates the Resorts World Sentosa integrated resort, reported that revenue nearly trebled to S$922.6 million from $346.4 million in the year-earlier period.

Gaming revenue from the integrated resort, which opened in February last year, accounted for the bulk of that - at S$804.4 million. Resorts World's Casino VIP rolling market segment has become a major contributor to growth as it tripled its contribution to 62 per cent of total gaming revenue from the previous quarter. The daily average visitation to Universal Studios was about 7,400 with an average spending of S$88 per visitor. Meanwhile, Resorts World's hotel occupancy was 7=9 per cent with an average room rate of S$280 per night.
