Passport Seva Portal: Kochi, Tuesday 1 February 2011: External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said that Kerala will have 13 Passport Seva Kendras by July this year.
The state presently has four passport offices. Thrissur, Ernakulam Rural, Thiruvananthapuram rural, Kannur and Malappuram are among the places the new Kendras are to be set up by July 15, Krishna told reporters here. Sites have been identified and work was on in full swing, he said.
In the passport adalat held on January 8 in the state, 90 cases of applications were received of which 57 cases were disposed off. Out of 8.57 lakh passport applications received in Kerala, 8.56 lakh had been issued, he said.
A record 62.13 lakh applications were received in 37 passport offices in the country last year, which also witnessed the largest number of new passports issued–59.27 lakh.
