Chris Gayle:Tia Bhatia will be wondering for the rest of her life whether 13 is an unlucky or lucky number for her.
It was in the 13th over of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) innings against Pune Warriors, when 11-year-old Tia was struck on the face by one of the sixes hit by Chris Gayle, resulting in a fractured nose. Little did Tia, who was rushed to the Mallya Hospital, know that within a couple of hours she would be visited by none other than Gayle himself!
Gayle rushed to the hospital as soon as the prize distribution ceremony was over to see the girl. Tia, who was thrilled to see him, was in for a bigger surprise. The West Indies opener gave her the medal, which he had won for winning the maximum number of sixes in Tuesday’s match. “In fact, Gayle was surprised when Tia said that she was honoured to be hit by Gayle,” said an eyewitness, who was present in the hospital, when the meeting took place. The girl also shared a joke with Gayle.
After the meeting, Gayle tweeted, “Visit Tia who got hit by 1 of my 6s, broken nose :(..her 1st word to me is to Chill,She’s fine!”
Meanwhile, a surgery was conducted on Tia’s fractured nose on Wednesday morning.
“She is fine now. We will keep her under observation for the next 24 hours and discharge her after that,” said Dr Kanchan Sanyal, medical superintendent, Mallya Hospital.
