Amber Avenue: Family and police tell WKYC that the four children taken by their father have been found safe in Euclid just about 5:00 p.m. and he is now in custody.
They were seen in the 1400 block of Sulzer Avenue by "an alert citizen," police say, and police converged on the area. The four children were unharmed and the father was taken into custody.
Police say the father, Octavia D. Hatchell, took the four children and was threatening to kill them and himself.
The children are ages 6, 9, 10 and 11. Hatchell is the biological father of all four children.
The woman who lives at the home on Sulzer where the children were found says Octavia Hatchell is a friend of hers, and brings the kids over often.
She says when Hatchell and the children arrived earlier Wednesday, they were in good spirits. The resident says she was not aware of the Amber Alert until police arrived.
Earlier Wednesday, Cleveland police were asking for the public's help as they tried to find a father who took his four children from two Cleveland schools.
Octavia Hatchell Jr., 11, is wearing a burgundy shirt and khaki pants. Tamiyah Hatchell, 10, is wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants.
Alonte Hatchell, 9, is wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants. Tameya Hatchell, 6, is wearing a blue shirt and khaki capris.
Police say Hatchell was driving a blue 1999 Buick Regal 4-door vehicle license plate FHY4133. Police say that he is known to be armed.
Police said they had information that he may be headed to either Pennsylvania or New York. Cleveland police have sent the Amber Alert information to both states.
In a 5 p.m. news conference, police spokesman Sammy Morris said Third District police officers were called to a home in the 3800 block of Bivens Avenue at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to take a domestic violence report from Hatchell's wife.
Hatchell was not there at the time.
His wife called police again at 1:30 p.m., saying her husband had called and told her that he had picked up all four children at their schools and was going to kill them and himself.
Morris said he did not know the nature of the domestic dispute.
Hatchell has prior convictions in Cuyahoga County for felony assault and attempted assault.
The children were taken from two separate schools in the Second District and both are Horizon Schools, one at 1700 Denison Avenue.
School administrators say Hatchell is well known at the school, described as "a nice person,". Administrators say he has permission to pick up his children from school, and was not acting out of the ordinary when he did so Wednesday.
The four children were reunited with their mother late Wednesday evening.
